in response to a friend's letter, why not condemning Hamas and Israel both for genocide in Gaza

The basis of this debate is the live genocide acquiring by Israel.

This friend basically sees genocide as equal to the heinous crimes of Hamas or he does not see the Israeli genocide at all!

If he believes that Hamas and its terrorist act was an excuse for genocide, then the whole discussion must rest on this belief. No one and no serious institution condemns the "pretext" and "persecutor" in the statement that calls for genocide.

All governments and movements that commit genocide must have reasons, excuses, and explanation to put forward to defend their act of genocide. They either deny it totally or hide it (in the past it was easier to hide it. For example, Hitler and the Nazis were able to carry out the genocide of the Jews secretly until the end of the war!)

Indicating that if it wasn't for October 7, then there wouldn't be genocide by Israel.  it's like a historian who considers the assassination of Prussian Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand as the cause of World War I. Or consider the mass killing of thousands of political prisoners by the Islamic Republic of Iran due to the military attack on its borders from Iraq by the Mojahedin Khalq.

There are many such examples in history. In this case Hamas’ that gave this excuse to Israel to commit genocide became one of the perpetrators of this genocide. And by doing this, the border of the genocidal government of Israel and the force that commits this heinous act of anti-humanity Hamas is blurred with "pretexting" as result the genocide itself is not fundamentally condemned, or what is going on is not considered genocide at all.

In conclusion due to this confusion the humanity and freedom lovers do not feel the duties to stand firm against genocide for Justice.

This is the exact explanation one can give to left and social activists in Iran for not taking side for Palestinians.

I know that this friend does not trust the UN and other International Organizations, and rightly so. But when it comes to international issues, a series of rules of the game must be accepted in order to make the world pay attention to the depth of what is going on. including the issue of the genocide of the people of Gaza.

As we all heard and witnessed, even ICJ and other organizations of human rights did not bring issue of genocide by Israel before the court and condemning Hamas at the same time. No one accused these organizations to be defenders of Hamas. At ICJ court no one claimed that Hamas simultaneously dropped 2,000-pound bombs on the people of Israel and cut off the food and water of the people or caused the people of Israel to forcibly migrate. The resolution for ceasefire is based on the cessation of war, and Israel is more obliged and a principle that Hamas should release the hostages.

One drawback of this discussion could be is that "genocide" is not well understood yet!!

It does not matter how you analyze this situation, the question is what should be done?

Should the killing of the people of Gaza be stopped or not? Or, if the slogan is war, war to victory! What should be the demands after victory?

By agreeing that the war between Hamas and Israel must be accepted first and condemn them both.  Then what?

A recent example one can give is the US-Iraq war, did we first accept that the war was happening because Iraq had weapons of mass destruction? Of course not. What was the left and social activists’ position then? Even though we knew that Saddam was an executioner, running a dictatorship, we still never condemned Iraq for the war that was imposed on them.

The basic question is, what force should stop the war machine?

In this case, first, it must be accepted that genocide has one side, and the other must be proven!
